Case Study: Foiling

Adding Flair with Foils Foil stamping gives a whole new appearance to a simple poster, sign, business card, wedding invitation or oversized postcard. It can add a slight hint of elegance when used in small portions or can give that dramatic feel when more is used. Foil stamping is a process in which a thin metallic sheet is pressed onto a substrate using a heated die to adhere the foil. Most people use either gold, silver, or copper-colored metallic foils; however, the foil can come in a range of colors and finishes. The foiling can be done on large format posters/ signs and smaller print projects like invitations/ general or speciality cards. We are able to do the foiling through contour cutting (check out our other blog post to learn more). The foil is on a roll which is then taken to the contour cutter we have in house to have the letters or design cut out of it. Then the surrounding excess foil is peeled away revealing the letters or design. Once that is done, it is place on the material and is good to go! Below are some wedding invitations we’ve worked on recently that involved foil stamping.  For more information on how you can bring your print, marketing, or design ideas to life, contact AlphaGraphics Ballantyne today at (704) 887-3430.
