Social Media Marketing Strategies

Social Media Can Increase Awareness. If your business doesn’t have a strong social media presence and isn’t actively marketing to your target demographic, then you’re missing out on a potential flood of new clients/customers.

Social media can increase brand awareness, drive new business, and increase top-line revenue. Many businesses attempt to market on social media, only to give up a few months later because they can’t figure out how to make it work. We’re going to give you some key marketing strategies that you can use to reboot or start a social media campaign for your business. Keep in mind: Social media isn’t the lottery. You’re not going to wake up one morning and have millions of followers. Like anything in life, you’re going to need to put in an honest effort over a period of time before you can see measurable results.

Have a Goal

Before you start setting up Facebook and Twitter/etc accounts for your business you need to have a goal (or goals) in mind.  Why are you doing this for?
  • increase website traffic?
  • increase customer retention?
  • build a better image of your brand/company?
  • provide better customer service?
Once you have a goal or goals you can manage the social media platforms appropriately. For example, if your goal is to provide better customer service, you would list your Twitter URL on your website, inside your business, and even on your printed marketing collateral. When a customer or client logs onto Twitter with a customer service problem, you or one of your employees should then answer the message within a short period of time. As time goes by other customers will see your Tweets and realize that you are very attentive towards customer concerns. This will not only increase customer retention but help out with brand loyalty as well.

Focus on the Right Social Media Networks

You should learn more about each of the social media networks and what they’re best used for. Then focus on which social network is right for the goals you have in mind. For example, Twitter is best used for customer service and business development. You can quickly monitor it for tweets from a dissatisfied customer and turn them into a happy one. LinkedIn is more for people who are in the B2B space. Those who frequent LinkedIn come there with a business mindset. B2B social media marketers tend to get the most value out of LinkedIn.

social media strategyCreate Unique and Engaging Content

Creating engaging content is where most businesses fail hard when it comes to social media marketing. It takes more than looking at what your competitors are doing and then attempting to replicate it. There’s a good chance that you and your competitors share the same customers/clients and you need to do something to stand out. In order to create content that engages, you can do one or more of the following:

How-to videos can offer a proactive solution to a problem that may arise one day. Video taken behind-the-scenes can give your social media viewers insight into the heart and soul of your company culture and does wonders for customer retention.

Stats, data, and information can be compiled and turned into a digital infographic that will be shared far and wide.

Create a Content Calendar

Successfully managing your social media accounts can take up a lot of time. This is another area where most businesses fail. They start off with a bang and a few months later they run out of ideas. At the start of each month, take some time to create a content calendar. This can be done solo or it can be done in an impromptu meeting with your business partner or employees. Plan on what content will be created and when and where it will be posted. Keep your goal(s) in mind and be sure to have someone available to monitor and respond to any customer/client interactions.
