Our press operators use the latest Pantone Color Guides to make sure that we're giving you consistent color with each print run. With a wide variety of available papers, including textured stocks like linen and laid, and a range of weights up to 130# cover, offset is often the best choice for printing high-quality stationery and business cards.

OFFSET VS. DIGITAL PRINTING FAQs

Why can't you print on heavy or textured stocks digitally?

Textured and heavyweight stocks are considered offset only because of the limitations of digital machines. Our digital printers can handle up to a 12pt thickness, whereas we can go up to 16pt with offset. Since textured stocks often have loose fibers, they can cause issues for digital machines. We do carry a digitally rated linen, but on the whole, textured papers are reserved for offset printing.

What are PMS Inks?

PMS stands for the Pantone Matching System, the industry standard color guide used to regulate color across various platforms and mediums. PMS Inks are mixed based on these guides so that your color remains consistent every time. Of course, color will be affected by the stock as well - an uncoated stock will always print duller and less vibrant than a coated stock, and different stocks have different brightness ratings which also affects the appearance of color.

How do I create artwork in PMS Spot Colors?

If you're using any type of creative software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Corel, or Quark Express, these programs have the native ability to create files in PMS colors. Simply go to your Color Swatches menu and select "Color Books"* and make sure you are using the most recent versions of the Pantone Colors! Little Known Fact: Microsoft Publisher also has the ability to work in PMS colors. Under the options menu, select Commercial Print Settings and then Definte all colors as Spot Colors. You'll be able to select your spot colors from there!

*This is accurate for Adobe Creative Suite. If you are using Corel, Quark or any other software, just ask us and we'll help you find the tools you need!
