Join us to bring cheer to area children
‘Tis the season of giving once more. For many of us, this is a merry and bright time of year, full of family and festivities. But it isn’t joyful for all—there are families right here in our community that struggle to make ends meet for a variety of reasons. As a result, it can be really difficult to stretch resources for any sort of Christmas gift for their children. For that reason—in the spirit of giving—AlphaGraphics Wood Dale is thrilled to partner again this year with the US Marine Corps Reserve in its annual Toys for Tots program.
A mission to deliver toys—and hope—at Christmas
Each year, the US Marine Corps Reserve runs the Toys for Tots program to collect new unwrapped toys. The toys are collected during the months of October, November, and December. Those toys are then distributed as Christmas gifts to children in communities in which the campaign is conducted. The inspiration for the program is to include children—no matter their circumstances—in the joyful experience of Christmas.
Sixty years of giving
In 1947, reservist Major Bill Hendricks established the Toys for Tots program in Los Angeles. His wife wished to donate a doll to a child for Christmas, but she found no program prepared to do so. Major Hendricks marshaled an effort that first year that collected 5,000 toys outside Warner Brothers movie theaters. In the 60 years since, the program has collected thousands of toys for children in our area as well as nationally.
New, unwrapped toys
We’re proud to participate again as a partner in this effort. Last year, through your generosity and participation, we collected more than 500 toys! For those wishing to participate with us, we will be collecting new unwrapped toys for children of all ages through Friday, December 15. Store—and collection—hours are Monday – Thursday 8:00 am – 5:30 pm, Fridays 8:00 – 5:00 pm.
