Oftentimes, it can be the most visible element of your company's identity. Therefore it's important to treat it as a critical piece of your branding. After conducting our research, we have listed and summarized several of our favorite articles that will help you optimize your signage. It's amazing to know just how much sign design and branding identity marketing affect customer behavior. [gallery ids="176,177,178"]

Effective Sign Design Tips

Here are a few elements that the most effective signs use strategically: Color – Attractive colors are always important, but picking color combinations just right for a particular brand means considering more than just visual appeal. To emphasize your company’s message it’s important to use colors that evoke emotions consistent with that message. To make a consistent message clear as well, color contrast is key—both between text and background and between a sign and its physical surroundings. (From "How Big Businesses Use Colors to Affect Your Emotions") Text – Readability rules here. A good starting point is to use a bold font that can be read easily from up to 100 feet. Mixing multiple fonts or choosing highly stylized ones can create clutter and distract from the sign’s message. Using all caps is also tempting. DO THIS SPARINGLY! Even though the text appears larger, it actually takes longer to read because we’re not used to it. (From "Tips for Small Business Signage") Graphics – We understand imagery more quickly and on more of a gut level than text. Graphics and logos speak to us at a glance and often say more than a carefully crafted sentence. But be careful, too many images create clutter! The most memorable visual elements are simple and clear. (From "5 Traits of a Great Logo Design") Visibility – Unfortunately, many people will look at your sign or banner for only a couple seconds at the very most. Several factors, including poor lighting, overhanging branches, faded colors, and positioning, can detract from a sign’s visibility just enough that people won’t take the time to really see it. To increase clarity, check out your sign from every point of view that a potential customer would.
