10 Ways to Use Twitter to Market Your Business

Much like Facebook and Instagram, Twitter is a great place to market your business—but things tend to move fast on the platform.

Unlike a Facebook post that lasts indefinitely, a single tweet on Twitter lasts a mere 18 minutes on average. Each second, over 7,000 tweets are sent out by users. The fast-paced action on Twitter makes it challenging for your messages to stick and people to see them. So, why try to market on Twitter at all? Well, for starters, Twitter has around 126 million daily users. That’s a huge audience to tap into.   The best way to make an impact on Twitter is to create content that’s valuable and really packs a punch. While that subject could take up several blog posts, we’re going to assume that you know how to create fantastic content that will cause people to take notice (if not—that’s not a problem. Click here to visit our social media marketing page if you need help).  Here are ten ways you can use Twitter to better market your business:

Business Twitter Profile

A “handle” is simply a nickname. Think of something unique and easy to remember, as people will use your handle to find your business page. The header image and profile photo should accurately reflect the branding of your business.

Optimize Your Bio

Your bio is where you will showcase your business. You might need to get creative as you’re only given 160 characters to work with. A good but effective bio looks something like this:

What Time to Tweet?

Considering how tweets only last an average of 18 minutes, you need to get strategic regarding the time of day you send one out. There are plenty of websites that have analyzed and come up with what they say is the best time of day to tweet.  The truth of the matter is that the best time to post is when your audience is active on Twitter. To find that information out, you’ll need to survey them or look at a sample of their tweets to see what time they post their content.

Hashtags

Studies have shown that tweets that use hashtags get 2x the amount of engagement versus those that don’t. However, don’t overdo it. The same study found that tweets that use over two hashtags get a 17% drop in engagement. Choose your hashtags carefully.

Find Customers Now

The great thing about Twitter is that many people tend to post their life events—no matter how mundane. Head on over to the advanced search section of Twitter and look for keywords that your clients or customers might use.  For example, if you’re a plumber, search for “clogged toilet” or “backed-up sink.” There’s a good chance a homeowner recently tweeted about one of these plumbing problems. Reach out to them, and you might land a new customer.

Use Images

People are visual creatures, and we tend to react more emotionally to a picture versus text. Studies have shown that tweets with images receive upwards of 89% more “likes.” You can use this to your advantage and add an image to your next tweet.

Use Video

What’s better than a picture? Why a video, of course! You can easily take a video with your smartphone and post it to Twitter. No professional Hollywood production crew needed.

Conduct a Poll

People on Twitter love to offer their opinions on things. Create a poll and watch the activity level on your page increase!

Use a Call-to-Action

A call-to-action (CTA) is a great way to get people off Twitter and onto your website—or pick up the phone to call you. Some example CTA’s can include:
  • Call us today
  • Shop our website
  • Download our white paper
  • Visit our store

Find Influencers

Twitter influencers are those people who have a large following. Reach out to them with something of value (not money), and if they like your product, service, or brand, they will most likely retweet it to their thousands—or millions—of followers. If you’re lucky enough to get an influencer to promote your business, get ready for a flood of new traffic.
