11 Email Marketing Tips for Your New Bern Business

Are your email campaigns falling flat and response rates are nowhere near what you’re expecting?

If so, you’re not alone. Many New Bern businesses struggle with optimizing their email marketing campaigns. A good list, offer, and persuasive copy often isn’t enough in this day and age. At AlphaGraphics of New Bern, we’re not only a print shop; we’re also marketing experts. We’ve helped countless New Bern businesses set up and optimize their email marketing campaigns over the years. We want to share with you 11 tips that can help improve response rates and allow you to optimize your campaigns.

Take Advantage of the Preheader Line

Also known as the “preview line,” the preheader plays a vital role in persuading people to open your email. Far too many businesses will ignore it entirely or use extremely long ones. The preheader line should complement the subject line and be limited to 40-130 characters in length. This way, people on both desktop and mobile will be able to read it clearly.

Focus on Engagement Instead of Sales

One of the biggest mistakes we see New Bern companies making is focusing their optimization efforts on sales instead of user engagement. If your audience feels that your email is trying to pitch or sell, they won’t be very responsive. Try to build an authentic relationship with them in your copy. This will provide long-lasting benefits over time.

A/B Test the Copy

If you’re not A/B testing your copy regularly, you’re potentially limiting your response rates. Just because you have a “gut feeling” that something is right—doesn’t necessarily make it so. Consider A/B testing to prove your gut feeling right—or wrong.

Unique Subject Lines

Don’t get lazy with your subject lines! Consider new techniques and tactics, such as a cliffhanger subject line that perks their curiosity: The ideal way to do ”X, Y, and Z” is… or How This One Little Trick Saved me $150… These types of subject lines are used throughout social media to improve engagement. Yes, they are “clickbait,” however, that’s ok as long as the content of your email delivers upon the promise of the subject line.

Subject Lines for Mobile Phones

Around 50% of people read their emails on their cell phones, which have less real estate space than laptops or desktop computers. This means that you’ll need to consider shortening your subject lines for mobile phone readers. Symbols, emojis, and numbers can help you achieve this.

Purge Your Email Lists Regularly

Remove bad email address from your mailing lists after every campaign. This will keep your list fresh and help improve deliverability stats.

Don’t Use Your Company Name in the Sender Field

Use the name of an employee in the sender field of your emails. This allows for a much more personalized look and feel. Using your company name often puts people on guard, and they’ll expect a sales pitch. [caption id="attachment_637" align="alignleft" width="300"]Track Photo by William Iven on Unsplash[/caption]

Use Stats and Numbers in Subject Lines

Stats and numbers aren’t open to interpretation. People often give them more weight than words. For example, instead of using “Save Money!” in your subject line, consider rewriting it to “Save 25% for the next 24 hours!”

DON’T USE ALL CAPS

Using all caps in subject lines or email copy can make people think that you’re shouting at them. In fact, some studies have shown that using all lowercase letters in subject lines can improve the click-through rate.

Talk About the Recipient, Not Your Company

If your email copy focuses solely on your company, you run the risk of losing your audience. Instead, focus on the reader and solving their pain points.

Keep Content Short

Long-winded subject lines and email copy can actually cause the reader to delete the email before they’ve finished reading it. An email should serve one purpose—to persuade the reader to perform an action. This is why you should keep sentences to under 20 words and paragraphs to 2-3 sentences. This will allow for quick and easy reading and allow your CTA to stand out even more.
